There's no one right way to answer this question because what works for you might not for someone else in this situation. We use LiteSpeed Enterprise and have to sacrifice some performance on certain aspects on our origin servers. However, don't expect it to be an "end all, be all" solution. If you are not happy with the performance after all the optimizations, consider LiteSpeed. There's no reason a server equipped with 24GB of RAM and likely a decent processor should struggle in this use case scenario when optimized. We have never found a reason to bring in the latter: you should really focus on (a) getting your site under Apache 2.4 as optimized as can be first.Ĭonsider in-RAM based or on NVMe based caching, configure PHP for high performance, examine the basics and work from there. Before you even jump into considering LiteSpeed you should either (a) address the performance the best you can or (b) have a professional high performance web application company do it. The need for LiteSpeed is really reliant on a lot of factors. The best way to start is with metrics if you do not have any then everything is guess work. This can be lower I/O during high activity on client sites, activities being written to disk swap because something else is not running fast enough, not enough allowed open files, or a whole number of things. More than likely there is either a configuration optimization that needs to be done or there is the potential that the hardware is not good enough anymore to host the sites of your customer as their activity increases. My questions really are: is it worth the price, which plan would be the best price to performance with 24GB of RAM, and is there anything that Litespeed is not compatible with that would interfere with clients? I've seen lots of ranging opinions on other websites but it would be nice to get WHT's view on it.Best thing you can do is have a 3rd party expert high performance systems administration company look into your configuration. I've always wanted to get it but it looks quite pricey. It's a serer with 24GB of RAM and a pretty darn good CPU so there's no overloading. In the ticket they also said they could not see that the server was being overloaded at all. I even opened a ticket with them a week or so again, and the only thing they could ask me to do was enable mod_lsapi which I did but there was no performance change. We use CloudLinux OS and have every single feature of theirs enable to keep everything going smoothly. If you don't want to purchase a license the Standard version is free, but has limited features.Over the past few weeks or so we've been getting reports from clients about their sites running slower than usual. We hope to have automated Litespeed license ordering available in the next several months. To add or remove licenses you must open a ticket with our sales department or email Litespeed VPS licenses are $12 a month each. Litespeed does not include a license by default. You will access the Litespeed administrative interface at Litespeed Documentation: Getting a Litespeed License Our support staff can assist you with installation of LiteSpeed in most common configurations. The installation instructions are fairly detailed, so it is most efficient for us to point you to the official documentation. You can download the Litespeed Web Server from the Litespeed Web Site.
